Senmurw is a mythical winged monster in ancient Iran. In one tradition it is described as a bat combining the natures of dog, bird and musk-ox. In Sassanid art it is represented as a sort of peacock dragon with a dog's head. Fancies relating to Senmurw were later translated to the modern Iranian wonder-bird, the Simurgh: it is supposed to be so old that it has seen the destruction of the world three times already.
